INTRAVERSE
as we know and love it today arose from the ashes of AXIS and The HAIZE, Tim
Pears on drums, Mikey Hurst on bass, Wayne Brummer on guitar, and Max Pepe
on vox.
As an outfit the journey started in February of 2000. We went by the name
FLEXIBLE - this was mainly because we all loved so many different areas and
genres of music we felt we were, yup, you've guessed it...'Flexible'! (genius
at work!..I mean really!!) We began, as most bands do, by playing (and perhaps
ruining) covers by all of our bestest bands!! Which at this early stage tended
to revolve around the likes of Creed, Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the
odd dose of Korn and James Brown thrown in for laughs >

......through
learning these covers we began to grow together quite nicely as a band, and
for our age and status we were pretty well respected - or at least we like to
think so. We were asked to play at numerous college functions and events, and
then eventually started playing regularly at those ex-public lavatories we now
know as The Forum! (unfortunately this is of course the Tunbridge Wells Forum,
not the London one...shame!)
Since we were getting more and more gigs and growing more and more as musicians,
we inevitably started writing our own material, as we began to discover we had
the potential to go far with this band (however, only fair to tell you that
most of us thought the journey from Crowborough to T.Wells was far at this stage,
so maybe not quite as optimistic as initially perceived!!)
As
is common throughout the development stage of most bands, our very early material
was mostly an exploitation of what we did best, which for us at this time was
most definately gratuitous guitar solos, power riffs and a garnish of melodic
shouting!!
More gigs proceeded at new venues, mainly local pubs and clubs - like The White
Hart in Wadhurst - but none the less, exposure is exposure in whatever form
in presents itself, and these early venues have supported all the way and as
consequence we still play there today!!
Then, in October 2000 our first bit of luck presents itself... one of the bands
in the annual 'Forum Battle of the Bands' dropped out of the final. As we all
seperately had a history in the competition we were posted straight into the
final, without having to put ourselves through any of the gruelling heats!!
So,
we went, we played......and as surprising to us and as sickening to the other
bands as it was.....we won!! Beating highly
acclaimed acts such as Chunky, Agent Orange, and Me - Hmmmm.
This of course had great benefits; we won three days recording at The Granary
Studios along with the production skills of Guy Denning and Nayler! It was at
this stage that most bands would snap up the opportunity and get straight into
the studio to record some decent material.
However we swiftly discovered that we were certainly not 'most bands' and decided
to take the chilled rock & roll approach and not actually book the studio
time until November 2001!! - Some things never change!
This
did however prove to be a blessing in disguise as it gave us time to write/perfect
some of our better early material like 'Witness' and 'People's Paralysis' etc.
and recorded five tracks.
We now had lots of gigs under our belts, lots of original material and a CD
that swiftly needed a cover design. We felt it was time for a change. The transition
from boy to man had begun, no longer would we march through this world under
a name that sounded more like the title of a men's health workout suppliment
than a band name.
Thus we made the brave decision to enter into 2002 with a new title. We were
now to be known as........INTRAVERSE!
The
next year or so saw us really start to find ourselves. We decided we wanted
to make every song we wrote a mini-masterpiece.
We got rid of all the usual conventions associated with songwriting and arragement.
We just wanted to fuse all of our passions within music to form the 'Intraverse
sound'. Each band member comes from a very different musical background and
all have differing musical influences that we bring to the group and inevitably
wear off on each member. What began to come out was a hybrid fusion of two predominant
genres......Funk and Rock.
By 2003 we had written and recorded a new nine track EP, namely ' Confessions'.
We decided to record it at home. This was mainly due to the fact we wanted to
sustain complete control over the production and musical interpretation of the
album as a concept....ok....who are we kidding...we were SKINT!!
Luckily
however through years of home recording and minor training we were able to create
a fairly competent effort.
With the strength of this EP pushing us along, our name began to rapidly grow
throughout local areas and we started to play at slightly better venues such
as Concorde II Brighton, BIMM, Lion in Folkstone
etc.
One of the highlights of 2003 at this stage was definately our prime slot at
MMM Festival in July, where we played open air in 30 degree heat to over 3,000
punters! That was some gooooood shit! Following this we were approached by numerous
managers and Industry people who showed great interest in us.
This
has catapulted us up and up. We now play regularly at prestigious London venues
such as Hope & Anchor, Dublin Castle, The Garage, The Underworld etc.
and have spread our wings as south as Brighton & Hastings, and as north
as Leicester & Lancaster.
This detailed history however, is just the beginning. What will truly be INTRAVERSE
history is in the making as we speak.
Watch this space.....cause we're gonna take over the world - Cue evil world
domination laugh: MU HAHAHAHA MUUU HAHAHAHAHA..........

Shortly
after we began to be professionally managed by Steve Hill (or Big Gay Scuba
Steve as we know him!) and joined forces with our now ' Creative Designers'
Tim Edmonds and Lucy Britten.
